Environment & Social

Bottle Green has always been very much on the front foot in terms of environmental and social awareness and how that is translated through to our business values and practices.

Sustainability is defined as: the holistic approach to growing and food production that respects the environment, the ecosystem and society.  We understand our responsibility in these areas and will contribute wherever possible.

Organics - for many years now we can claim to be the largest UK importer of wine made from organically grown grapes and this method of production has many environmental benefits.  Our availability and range of organic wines from across the World is extensive.

Fairtrade – we have long been involved in the Fairtrade wine movement and are delighted to be able to offer Fairtrade certified wines from Chile.  The success of this ultimately leads to a better life for the community around the participating wineries as they benefit from the additional funds.

Carbon footprint – we are all increasingly aware of the need to reduce carbon emissions in order to provide a more sustainable planet for our children and future generations to come.  We are a significant player in terms of packing bulk wine in the UK from the New World and we also offer lighter-weight glass options wherever possible.

And it doesn’t stop there.  We were the first UK wine company to bring a branded Australian product to the shelf in a Tetrapak with the introduction of the 1L ‘Futurpak’ from Andrew Peace Wines.  Futurpak is our own terminology for the stylish and lightweight advanced ‘Prisma Aseptic’ technology from Tetrapak, and is increasingly re-cyclable throughout much of the UK.

At our Leeds office we are highly carbon and waste aware and have full on-site recyling facilities, or other options, for all our major forms of waste - paper, glass, printer toner, even our old computers.  And even though some of our team need to travel from time to time to enable us to function efficiently, we ensure that we log every journey and have plans in place to assess how we can further improve our own ‘footprint.’
